Gather 'round the Table

Y'all. For 10 days straight I cooked. We did not order from a restaurant, not one single time.
For some, this maybe isn't a big deal to you. But, for most of us, there is reason to celebrate and feel a bit empowered.

For 10 days straight, my family gathered around our kitchen table. With a home-cooked meal before us and a blessing by two littles, who argue over who will say it first.

For 10 days straight, I mopped up spills, vacuumed crumbs, and wiped sticky fingerprints from the table... and the chairs. And not one tip was left for me, but a whole bunch of memories were deposited those days.

For 10 days, it was a beautiful sight. As I looked out our window, I wondered what people might think if they peeked in. Seeing a young family gathered 'round the table. That young family praising Jesus, sharing laughs, and a mama trying to teach her children table manners.

In our busy world, we do not take the time to gather at the table enough. Those 10 days changed me. I was happier. I felt less stressed. I still had all the outside hustle and bustle happening, but I carved time in each day to cook for my family and enjoy a meal as a family.  On a few of those nights we had an empty chair. My husband and That Suitcase were on a business trip. On two of those nights we sat at two different kitchen tables as we celebrated with our family.

My pastor posed the question the other day- Are we creating a path that is easy for our Children to follow Christ? The percentage of Americans no longer proclaiming Christ as the Risen Savior is rising each day. I fear the future for my children. I fear that they will one day feel threatened to praise His name. I pray that I can pave that road a little more each day for my children. And I think it can all begin by gathering 'round the table.

When we gather 'round the table, we pray together. We teach our children that before we move, we should praise Him for all the blessings before us. We teach our children that we are nourishing our bodies so we can serve Christ and glorify His Kingdom.

In my profession, I see children everyday that  only gather 'round the table at school. It's not that they do not have loving homes, it's that they have busy homes. Their meals are in the car from one practice or dance class to another. I  am guilty of this. Sometimes it has to be that way. However, there are times when we have a night free from activities. On those nights, we must make time to gather 'round the table and teach our children the importance of praising our Savior for each one of our blessings. Because we know when two or more of His children are gathered together, He is there.

Have Him over for dinner tonight.

Praise Him for your blessings.

He pleads of us to seek Him and teach our children to do the same.

It begins with us and it can start by gathering 'round the table.
